My Cat Named Diamond

(from the presumed perspective of my cat)

A mouse is but a challenge to conquer.

I impress the world by pursuing mice.

My whiskers quiver; I know it is near,

The pitter-patters are earthquakes to me.

My mouth waters, I swallow my giddy;

I will break free of this dry food cycle.

I can taste the challenge on my tongue;

This one is easier for my poor jaw

Then Jim Simmerman in 1990.

I tried to rip up his poetry book…

… Never mind, catching mice is harder.

Some mice are genuinely evil in their souls.

They rebel against objectivity,

Making themselves the "heroic underdog."

They call us sheep; their tails don't wag like dogs.

"It's not the truth that matters, but victory."

So said the human version of a mouse

He was all cynicism and no facts.

I carry the mouse through the universe

D-Money shoots for the moon with a dead mouse

D-Money lands among stars and is full

And quits poetry

Diamond the cat will show all of those mice

So they quiver in satisfying fear

And Diamond sinks her teeth into their flesh

I'll make the world cat-shaped for all those mice

Poco de poco

The cat will always hunt the mouse-shaped moon

The cat and mouse always move each other

The whiskers of truth will always sense

All of those mice are made out of lies.
